[Ferro-alloys.com] Sources assessed the spot price of 553-grade 98.5% silicon metal at $2,130-2,160/mt CIF Japan Thursday, narrowing from $2,120-2,200/mt CIF last week in thin trade ahead of Japanese public holidays over May 3-6.
There was no Chinese export price assessment Thursday due to Labor Day public holidays in China and Singapore.
One Japanese trader reported receiving offers at $2,150/mt CIF Japan or below from Chinese sellers this week. A second Japanese trader reported a sales indication from China, but not a firm offer, at $2,190/mt CIF Japan.
Two other Japanese traders, who were not in the market this week, put their price ideas at $2,150-2,160/mt CIF Japan.
A fifth trader reported a deal at $2,130/mt CIF Japan done last week, for 60-100 mt to be shipped from China's main port in May.
Separately, a spot offer and a deal for 441-grade 99.9% silicon metal were both reported at $2,170/mt CIF Japan.
