[Ferro-alloys.com]The 11th China Ferro-alloys International Conference hosted by CCCMC and China Ferro-alloys.com successfully commenced at V-Continent Beijing Parkview Wuzhou Hotel during May 14th-16th,2014. Mr Qi Biao, President of Tianjin Ferroalloy Exchange, delivered an amazing speech on ferrosilicon situation at home and abroad, especially challenges and opportunities the former is facing. Mr Qi reported world ferrosilicon capacity at approximately 10 million tons and 7.5 million tons in China. Ranked by capacity, China,Russia,Ukraine,Norway and Brazil take the top five places.

In terms of export, Russia,China,Norway,Brazil and Iceland occupy at least two thirds of global market. China totally exported around 600 thousand tons (including estimated illegal exports)in 2013, while Mr Qi pointed out China had to export at least one million tons to meet the consumption of the world. But the high export tariff rate of 25% on ferrosilicon has deprived price advantage of exported Chinese ferrosilicon and EU is imposing antidumping duty on Chinese ferrosilicon. Russia,Norway and Iceland almost share the European market and Russia, Brazil and Venezuela occupy the Americas. The major market of Chinese ferrosilicon is Japan and South Korea, while many Japanese and South Korean ferrosilicon consumers invest in ferrosilicon smelters in other countries other than China and these materials are for their own use, squeezing into export market. Multi factors add to the difficulty of Chinese ferrosilicon exports.
