China's GCL-Poly will use its new Fluidised Bed Reactor technology to add significant capacity this year, PV-Tech reports.
According to the website, the world's largest polysilicon producer will used the FRB technology it has produced in-house to produce 25,000 MT of granular silicon capacity, via a new plant, in addition to the 65,000 MT per annum nameplate capacity it has using the traditional Siemens method.
"FBR-based granular silicon offers the potential for lower production costs, primarily due to significantly lower energy consumption. GCL-Poly only noted that the FBR capacity would come on stream in the 2014 to 2015 timeline," PV-Tech said.
Meanwhile, the website reports, GCL-Poly production was up 85.2 per cent for the first quarter to 16,022 MT.
