[Ferro-alloys.com]Prices for European medium-carbon widened this week to USD 1,145-1,205 per mt, DDP, as buyers moved in the spot market to secure material on multiple deals; indicated volumes were varied, but ultimately the mid-point fell as a result. Market respondents noted previously that softening was possible in the European market ahead of the typically sluggish summer months. In the US market, medium-carbon ferromanganese prices held steady at USD 95-98 per lb, ex-warehouse as the spot market was largely subdued. The US market was likely to remain idle outside of contract shipments for the coming several weeks, but market participants reported healthy intake volumes downstream.
The high-carbon ferromanganese market was unmoved, week-on- week, in the US and Europe. While there was some softening noted in Europe late last month, most were still anticipating the close of a few large tenders to provide additional clarity on the near-term trend for high-carbon ferromanganese. Source in the US noted a possible decline in selling prices, which went unconfirmed, but hinted that recent imports could lead to a decline in asking prices.
