[Ferro-alloys.com] China being the largest supplier of Si metal worldwide exerted much influence over the global market, especially the Asian market. Prices of Chinese Si metal had kept declining since the beginning of August 2014, with Si 553# declining to USD2,000-2,040/mt FOB by the end of H1 of August. Affected by the declining prices of Chinese Si metal, market prices of Si metal went lower in Japan and India. Q3 was the thin season for Si metal in Japan, production reduction of consumers furthered cooled the purchase intention of dealers.

With much tight supply of Brazilian and Australian Si metal, Si metal price slightly climbed in the US market. Si553# rose to 144-147 cents/lb in mid August, from 140-144 cents/lb in the US Market. As there were more sources for European Si metal consumers, Si metal prices kept steady in Europe.
