Wacker began producing hyperpure polycrystalline silicon at its Nunchritz site on Oct. 10. The full nominal capacity of 15,000 mtpy is expected to be operational in the second quarter of 2012. The start of production is three months earlier than Wacker’s original timetable. Wacker’s entire polysilicon output, including that from Nunchritz, is almost completely under contract until the end of 2015. Wacker has a target polysilicon production of more than 33,000 mt of hyperpure polycrystalline silicon in 2011.
