Japan’s customs-cleared imports of standard-grade silicon metal (Si less than 99.99%) was 23,322 mt in September, down from 27,866 mt in August, but up from 16,486 mt in September 2010. Imports from China accounted for 80.7% with 18,816 mt in September. The imports for the first nine months of 2011 reached 177,166 mt, up from 150,426 mt. Imports from China accounted for 86.1% so far this year with 152,578 mt, as compared to 89.4% with 134,542 mt in the same 2010 period.
