Indonesian mining minister Luhut Pandjaitan said on Tuesday (4th, October) that they were still in consideration of ore exports restart, and decision would be made within several weeks.

Indonesia has stopped raw nickle ore export since 2014. Metallurgy enterprises worry that restarting nickle ore export may result in low nickle prices and risk $12 billion investment.

Pandjaitan also pointed out that the Indonesian government could spare metallurgy enterprises 3 to 5 years to finish factories building and until then it would ban ore export again. However, if they could not finish it within five years, their license might be revoked. At present the Indonesian government is working on revising their metallurgy law.
