[ferro-alloys.com]Chile's steel production index in November rose 8.9% year on year and fell 11% from October, the National Institute of Statistics (INE) said Wednesday.
The INE measures steel production through an index that includes operating blast furnaces, converters and rolling mills, as well as production of pig iron, ingots, ferroalloys and finished steel products such as angles, sections and bars.
The institute does not publicly quantify actual production volumes, only percentage changes.
According to the World Steel Association, Chile's steel output rose 5% year on year to 105,000 mt in November and was down 3.7% from October.
Chile's steel production index is part of INE's manufacturing index, which in November dropped 4.7% year on year and 0.6% from October.
The manufacturing index is one of three components of the country's overall industrial production index, which in November rose 0.4% year on year and 1.4% from October.
The report also said that iron ore production in November fell 11.2% year on year and 1.8% month on month.
