GLENVIEW, IL - The Steel Tube Institute (STI) and RISA Connection will present a webinar on "Efficient Design of Hollow Structural Section (HSS) Connections" on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at 2:00 pm EDT. The webinar awards 1 PDH certificate.
Designing with HSS members has many advantages for a variety of reasons. However, designing HSS connections present a unique set of challenges that designers may not be familiar with compared to open section connection design. These challenges, such as unique limit states and difficulty strengthening an HSS, add complexity to the overall design. In this webinar, STI and RISA will outline guidelines when considering HSS connections while educating designers on how to design the most economical steel tube connections.
Attendees will learn how to:
- Evaluate unique limit states required for HSS connection design,
- Choose HSS member sizes to achieve economical connections, and
- Use RISA Connection for HSS shear, moment and brace connections.
The webinar will be presented by Kim Olson, P.E., Structural Engineer at FORSE Consulting and Ben Follett, P.E., Product Marketing Manager at RISA.
