[Ferro-Alloys.com] Steel plate prices in the United States were unchanged during the week to Friday September 13, but market participants said that prices were likely to drop further on soft demand.
Fastmarkets’ price assessment for steel cut-to-length plate carbon grade, fob mill US, remained at $34.50 per hundredweight ($690 per short ton) on September 13, steady week on week but down by 2.8% from $35.50 per cwt at the start of the month. The bearish pricing trend for plate is demand-driven, market participants said, noting that lead times at most domestic plate mills remain as short as two to three weeks. “Our demand is soft for all products,” one Midwest service center source said.
