[ferro-alloys.com]Vale has confirmed a 3.6Mn earthquake at 3:10 a.m on the 8,070 foot level of its Creighton mine in Sudbury, Ontario.
The event was felt in the community and was recorded by Earthquakes Canada.
Vale confirmed that the seismic event occurred after a development blast. Three smaller aftershocks followed.
All employees were safely brought to surface and operations at the deepest nickel mine in Canada resumed Thursday morning.
Activity is restricted below the 7,200 level until background levels return to normal and the impacted area of the mine is inspected, Vale said.
Earthquakes Canada said there are no reports of damage, and none would be expected.
