Soaring to 33.6 TWh, an increase of 38.8%. Among them, nuclear power imports from France have grown significantly.

The bureau said that this is mainly because France is still actively developing nuclear power while Germany is shutting down nuclear power plants one after another. According to previous plans, Germany will shut down three nuclear reactors by the end of 2021, and shut down all coal-fired power plants by 2038.

According to Reuters, in 2020, the German government has reached an agreement with some coal-fired power plants. Starting from January 1 this year, hard coal power plants with a total installed capacity of 4.8 GW will stop selling electricity. In addition, according to a lignite withdrawal agreement, German power company RWE has also completely shut down its 300 MW Niederaussem D lignite power plant on December 31, 2020.

According to industry insiders, since Germany announced its "abandonment of nuclear" and "abandonment of coal", Germany has always hoped to use more renewable energy such as wind and solar energy to promote the energy transition and strengthen the interconnection of energy networks with neighboring countries.

Statistics from the German Federal Power Grid Agency show that in 2020, the proportion of renewable energy power in Germany's total electricity has increased by 3.2 percentage points to 49.3%. In November 2020, Germany initiated the interconnection with the Belgian power grid; in December, it began to build cables directly connected to the Norwegian power grid.
