[Ferro-Alloys.com] According to data of China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association, China produced 770.7 thousand tons of premiary magnesium in 2020, down by 0.47% YoY, and the consumption of magnesium in 2020 was expected to be around 485 thousand tons, basically stayed the same with the previous year.
Thr production of magnesium in 2021 was expected to be around 955 thousand tons, and domestic consumption was expected to be around 503.5 thousand tons.
According to data of China Customs, in Jan-Nov, 2020, China exported a total of 353.1 thousand tons of magnesium products, down by 13.73% YoY, and the export value showed a decrease of 19.47% to 844 million US dollars.
Among them, magnesium ingot export was 182 thousand ton, down 16.48% YoY; magnesium alloy 95.7 thousand tons, down 5.15% YoY and magnesium powder 62.3 thousand tons, down 20.03% YoY.
The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported that for the month of November 2020, U.S. steel mills shipped 6,753,447 net tons, a 0.1 percent increase from the 6,747,709 net tons shipped in the previous month, October 2020, and a 11.9 percent decrease from the 7,665,006 net tons shipped in November 2019. Shipments year-to-date in 2020 are 73,950,515 net tons, a 16.1 percent decrease vs. 2019 shipments of 88,157,028 for eleven months.
