Indonesian President Jacques Zoko said, in view of Indonesia’s largest nickel reserves in the world, it is hoped to focus on the development of downstream nickel industry in the next five years.
Indonesia has the world’s largest nickel reserves, which accounting for 60% of the world's nickel reserves. According to the detected data, Indonesia has about 21 million tons of nickel reserves, controlling nearly 30% of the world’s nickel production, Zoko said at the 48th campaign Democratic memorial.
At present, Indonesia already has downstream industrial capacity to produce nickel iron or stainless steel. In the future, Indonesia will also need to process nickel ore into lithium batteries that can be used in mobile phones and electric vehicles.
