The first of the three electric forklifts to be put into operation by quilavik has been deployed, each weighing 1390 tons, equivalent to the weight of 630 light trucks. According to a caterpillar blog post, the daily handling capacity of 7495 electric rope shovel can reach 127000 tons. Anglo American said quilavik will start production in 2022 with an estimated ore reserve of 1.3 billion tons. The project aims to produce 300000 tons of copper equivalent per year in the first 10 years of operation. "It's a new milestone in history that quilavic has completely installed the first shovel," Anglo American tweeted The 291 ton cat 794 truck used in the project also has an electric powertrain.
