According to the American Iron and Steel Association (AISI), the last week of January (as of 30 January 2021), the US crude steel production is estimated at 1.725 million short tons (1.5649 million tons), down 9.5% from 1.906 million tons in the same period last year, increase 0.5% compared with 1.717 million short tons in the previous week.

That week, the utilization rate of steel plant capacity was 76.1%, which lower than 82.4% in the same period last year, but higher than 75.7% in the previous week.

Subregionally, the crude steel production in the northeastern United States is estimated to be 149,000 short tons, a decrease of 2.61% from a month earlier; The crude steel production in the Great Lakes Region is estimated to be 608,000 short tons, a decrease of 0.98% from a month earlier; The crude steel production in the Midwest Region is estimated to be 186,000 short tons, a decrease of 1.59% from a month earlier; The crude steel production in the Southern region is estimated to be 71,000 short tons, an increase of 2.6% over the previous month; The crude steel production in the Western region is estimated to be 72,000 short tons, an increase of 4.35% over the previous month. 

Since this year (as of January 30), the total production of crude steel adjusted by the United States has been 7.36 million short tons, down 9.7% from the same period last year; While the utilization rate of steel plant capacity is 75.9%, which lower than 82.4% in the same period last year.
