【Ferro-alloys.com】According to data recently released by the International Molybdenum Association (IMOA), global molybdenum production in 2020 was 273,200 tons, an increase of 5% from 2019 (261,000 tons). In 2020, the global consumption of molybdenum was 247,600 tons, a decrease of 5% from 2019 (261,400 tons).
South America surpassed China to become the largest molybdenum production area, with an output of 90,219 tons, an increase of 6% over 2019 (84912 tons);
China is the second largest producer of molybdenum and is the only region with a decline in production in 2020, from 93,258 tons in 2019 to 88,450 tons in 2020, a decrease of 5%;
The output in North America was 69,717 tons, an increase of 8% over 2019 (64,319 tons); other countries and regions had the largest increase in output, up to 34%, from 18,506 tons in 2019 to 24,857 tons in 2020.
In the fourth quarter of 2020, global molybdenum production increased by 7% month-on-month, China increased by 21%, North America increased by 7%, other regions increased by 1%, and South America decreased by 3%. It was the only region with a year-on-year decline in production. Compared with the same period in 2019, global molybdenum production in the fourth quarter of 2020 increased by 8%, China increased by 9%, North America increased by 7%, and other regions increased by 37%, the largest increase. South America is the only region that has not grown, with production remaining at 23,496 tons year-on-year.
