Ferrovanadium prices were firmer in the US and Europe last week. US prices edged up to $14.70-14.90 per lb compared to $14.50-14.75. Some spot inquiries in Europe pushed prices up to $31.50-32.50 per kg. One seller reported selling to a consumer at slightly above $33. Whether current prices will hold will depend on continued spot inquiries and China, said a trader. Suppliers believe that the spot market is tight. In addition, they report that some European consumers that traditionally were covered by long-term contracts decided to buy on a spot basis in 2013 because they were not able to obtain the discounts they wanted.
