India’s JSW Steel posts higher output in July-Sept

Indian private-sector producer JSW Steel's July-September crude steel output rose by 14pc from a year earlier, but dropped on the quarter as a result of maintenance shutdown and lower capacity utilisation at its plants.
 
Crude steel production from Indian operations, including from JSW Ispat Special Products (JISPL), stood at 5.6mn t, the company said.
 
The steelmaker's production dropped by 2pc from the April to June quarter owing to extended maintenance shutdowns by JISPL and lower capacity utilisation in other locations in India caused by supply and logistics constraints in iron ore sourcing and a steep decline in export volumes, it said.
 
JISPL's production plunged by 77pc on the year to 30,000t during July to September.
 
JSW's crude steel output in the first half of the fiscal year ending March 2023 rose by 15pc on the year to 11.32mn t.
 
India's finished steel exports have plunged by 66pc on the year in the July to September quarter, dented by the 15pc export tax imposed by the government in late May. Argusmedia
