Dutch chess player Anish Giri won the prestigious Tata Steel Chess Tournament 2023 in Wijk aan Zee, the Netherlands on Sunday.
Giri finished first with 8.5 points. Nodirbek Abdusattorov of Uzbekistan and Norwegian world champion Magnus Carlsen ended joint second with 8 points and China's Ding Liren had to settle for 11th place with 5.5 points.
In the 13th and final round of the 85th edition of the tournament at the Dutch west coast, the runner-up in 2014, 2015, 2018, 2019 and 2021 won playing with white against Romanian Richard Rapport.
At the same time, Abdusattorov, who was once half a point ahead, lost with white to Dutch Jorden van Foreest.
Giri took over the title from Carlsen, who had won eight times in Wijk aan Zee.
