In the week ending on August 26, 2023, US domestic raw steel production was 1,733,000 net tons while the capability utilization rate was 76.2 percent, according to data of AISI. Production was 1,719,000 net tons in the week ending August 26, 2022 while the capability utilization then was 78.0 percent. The current week production represents a 0.8 percent increase from the same period in the previous year. Production for the week ending August 26, 2023 is down 1.3 percent from the previous week ending August 19, 2023 when production was 1,756,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 77.2 percent.
Adjusted year-to-date production through August 26, 2023 was 58,096,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 75.9 percent. That is down 1.9 percent from the 59,239,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 79.7 percent.
Broken down by districts, here’s production for the week ending August 26, 2023 in thousands of net tons: North East: 130; Great Lakes: 554; Midwest: 224; Southern: 754 and Western: 71 for a total of 1733. (AISI)
