India's private-sector steelmaker JSW Steel has announced a 13.2mn t/yr greenfield steel manufacturing complex in Paradip, Odisha.
The facility will include a captive power plant, jetties with cargo handling capacity and a cement manufacturing unit. JSW Steel's complex will be set up at Dhinkia Nuagaon and Gadakujanga in Erasama tehsil, Jagatsinghpur district of Odisha.
The integrated steel project will need an investment of around 650bn rupees ($7.8bn), the company said.
JSW Steel has a crude steel capacity of 29.7mn t, and plans to raise it to 38.5mn t by the April 2024-March 2025 fiscal year. The company's iron ore mines in Odisha have a reserve of 1.1bn t. JSW Steel's captive iron ore dispatches from mines in the state of Odisha and Karnataka were at 23.73mn t in the year to 31 March, 2023.
The mill's Indian operations produced 6.63mn t of crude steel in the October-December 2023 quarter, up by 7pc on the year. argusmedia
