2024 Ghana elections: Mahama appeals to Nyinahin residents highlighting bauxite mining plans
While addressing the crowd, Mahama outlined a detailed plan to enhance bauxite mining to create local jobs and drive national economic growth.
He said, "We will engage with the chiefs regarding the construction of a railway from Takoradi to Nyinahin to facilitate the easy transportation of bauxite. Additionally, we will construct a factory for aluminium production to create more jobs for the youth."
"We are committed to the development of our country. The days of supporting a party solely based on lineage are no longer relevant. Let's choose a government that will deliver real benefits to the people," he appealed.
The bauxite resources in Nyinahin are divided into three blocks - Block A: Near Nyinahin, Block B: In the middle, and Block C: Near Mpassaso Nos. 1 and 2. Ashanti Bauxite Limited, a joint venture between Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC) and Rocksure International Limited, is planning to develop a mine in Nyinahin Block C and construct a refinery.
Ashanti Bauxite has already submitted its mining lease to parliament for ratification, a critical step in moving the project forward. Once approved, the project will start, marking a significant development in the country's bauxite mining and refining ambitions.
