【Ferro-alloys.com】:According to the United States Geological Survey, the United States alumina imports through the first three quarters of 2024 reflected a year-on-year downfall of 1.1 per cent, despite sequential growth in the second and third quarter of the year.
A sharp fall in Q1 by 20.33 per cent Q-o-Q and 11.46 per cent year-on-year to 286,000 tonnes has contributed to the downfall in the United States year-to-date alumina imports. Even the subsequent increase in the second and third quarter by 13.64 per cent and 16.31 per cent, respectively, failed to offset the year-to-day downtick.
In the second quarter of 2023, the United States alumina imports were 325,000 tonnes, which climbed up in Q3 to 378,000 tonnes, also up by 5.29 per cent Y-o-Y from 359,000 tonnes.
From January to September, the United States total volume of alumina imports stood at 989,000 tonnes, compared to 1 million tonnes during the corresponding period of the previous year.
Brazil remained the top exporter of alumina to the United States in Q3 2024, even though the volume decreased Q-o-Q as well as Y-o-Y. According to the USGS data, Brazil exported 257,000 tonnes of alumina to the United States, down by 5.86 per cent from 273,000 tonnes in Q2. On a year-on-year basis, the exports decreased by 6.88 per cent from 276,000 tonnes.
Brazil’s total alumina exports to the United States through the first nine months of 2024 amounted to 749,000 tonnes, down by 9.65 per cent from 829,000 tonnes during the corresponding period of the previous year.
On the other hand, alumina exports from Jamaica to the United States jumped by 283.3 per cent quarter-on-quarter from 9,940 tonnes to 38,100 tonnes. Annually, the exports hiked by 120 per cent from 17,300 tonnes.
From January to September 2024, Jamaica exported 67,500 tonnes of alumina to the United States – 85.44 per cent higher than 36,400 tonnes during the corresponding period of the previous year.
