Japanese high-carbon ferrochrome consumption by steel mills totaled 208,291 mt for the first four months of 2013, down 6.7% from 223,140 mt for the same 2012 period. Stocks at the end of April reached 104,726 mt, up from 81,305 mt a year earlier. Consumption in 2012 fell 3.9% to 648,770 mt compared to 675,082 mt in 2011. Stocks at the end of December 2012 fell to 85,266 mt from 90,566 mt a year ago.
