Recently, silicon manganese quoted price plummets, with around RMB7,300/mt (USD1,073.5/mt) in south and RMB7,500/mt (USD1,103/mt) in north for 6517#. It is said that some mills even cut purchase price to RMB6,800-7,000/mt (USD1,000-1,029.4/mt). In fact, most plants would suffer loss according to that price. One plant in Hunan indicated that mills accept price is only about RMB7,000/mt which below their production cost RMB7,500/mt, so they have no choice but to suspend producing. In addition, some producers refuse to sell with current too low price, although there are still some stocks in their hands. At present, most participants hold wait-and-see view on near future market trend.
