Business Standard reported that state owned NMDC produced 7.3 million tonne of iron ore during the quarter ended December 31st 2013, up 37% over the same quarter last year. Last year it produced 5.3 million tonne during the same quarter.
According to official sources “The despatches registered whopping 40% increase to 7.4 million tonne during the October to December quarter against 5.3 million tonne in the Q3 of last fiscal.”
Sources said that "Total production up to December 31st stood at 20.3 million tonne and despatches recorded at 21.24 million tonne this fiscal. In December, the miner added 2.8 million tonne of iron ore production and 2.7 million tonne of dispatches to its kitty.”
A senior official of NMDC indicated that the PSU would end up between 27 to 28 million tonne of production by the end of the present fiscal.
The official said that "We are concerned more on despatches front rather than production side. Ore evacuation is challenging one."
The company has a total production capacity of 32 million tonne per annum at its mines in Chhattisgarh and Karnataka. It targets to achieve 40 million tonne capacity by 2014 to 15.
