Ukraine-focused iron ore miner Ferrexpo said Wednesday pellet output last year rose 11.6% to a record 10.8 million mt, helped by a new mine as it increased supplies of 65% Fe product.
Ferrexpo production of 65% Fe pellet rose 19.5% to 5 million mt as global demand for higher-grade ores increased amid earlier shutdowns at competitors. The 62% Fe pellet accounted for 5.8 million mt, up 5.6%.
Pellet output from ore mined at Ferrexpo Poltava Mining (FPM) and at the new Ferrexpo Yeristovo Mining (FYM) open pit totaled 10.466 million mt, up 11.2%, the Switzerland-headquartered miner said. Pellet produced from third party-supplied ore totaled 347,500 mt, up 23.5%.
Total pellet production in the fourth quarter rose nearly10% year on year to 2.765 million mt, with 1.48 million mt of 62% Fe product and 1.28 million mt of 65% Fe pellets.
Ferrexpo says it is the world's sixth-largest pellet producer and largest exporter of pellet producers from the Commonwealth of Independent States.
