The Philippine government data show that despite the New Crown epidemic led to some projects to reduce production, the Philippines' nickel production in 2020 still achieved a 3% year-on-year increase.
According to government data, the Philippines produced 333,962 tons of nickel last year, up 3.29% from 323,325 tons in 2019.
Only 18 of the 30 nickel mines reported in the Philippines in 2020.
The Philippine Bureau of Mining and Geoscience said the mining outlook for 2021 remains uncertain as it continues to face the threat of a new crown. The report said quarantine restrictions led mining companies to reduce working hours and manpower.
But government agencies in the Philippines say the rise in global nickel prices, coupled with the introduction of a New Crown vaccine, will encourage mines to restart and increase production, paving the way for new projects to start production.
