US steelmaker Nucor has kept its plate pricing flat, a month after it dropped prices by triple digits.
The company kept its ex-works plate prices flat at $1,480/short ton and opened up its books for February orders, according to a price announcement from 28 December.
On 29 November, Nucor dropped its plate prices, surprising many in the market who had expected the company to keep prices flat then.
The Argus US plate ex-work assessment fell by 20pc in 2022 to $1,455/st on 27 December, driven down by lower demand and market expectations that plate prices will close the gap with hot rolled coil, which ended the year at $683/st in the Midwest.
