Brazil increased its power generation capacity by 8.2GW in 2022, with fossil-fueled thermal plants accounting for 16pc of total growth.
Fossil-fueled thermal plants were responsible for 1.3GW of the expansion, while capacity from biomass-powered thermal plants grew by 905MW, according to electricity regulator Aneel.
Solar and wind generation added 2.7GW and 2.9GW, respectively. Small hydroelectric plants added 375MW.
Brazil's total installed generating capacity rose to 189GW.
