Korean steel giant Posco and the largest carbon steelmaker in Taiwan China Steel Corp. (CSC) have both hiked the prices for steel flat products to Japan by US$50~US$70/ton for the fourth quarter.
The price rise is mainly to reflect higher input costs and the depreciated Japanese Yen.
Currently, the price for SS400 hot rolled coils (HRC) is at US$612~US$633/ton in the Japanese market.
Meanwhile, Japan imported 140,900 tons HRC in August, down by 2% compared to July while up by 2.7% year-on-year.
Among them, 88,700 tons were imported from Korea and 51900 tons were from Taiwan.
