According to Chongqing city, they have eliminated 1 million tonnes of iron making backward capacity, 86,000 tonnes of steel making capacity, 51,000 tonnes of ferroalloy capacity in 2010 and 2012. They shut down 53 small sized steelmakers in the meantime.

Data show that, Chongqing city has produced 3.559 million tonnes of pig iron, 3.78 million tonnes of crude steel and 7.802 million tonnes steel products in the first eight months of 2012.
