Ferro-alloys.com:According to preliminary statistics from the U.S. Department of Commerce, the total US steel imports in December 2020 were 13.56736 million tons, an increase of 8.9% from November and a year-on-year decrease of 6.2%. In terms of value, US steel imports totaled US$1.29 billion in December, compared with US$1.13 billion in November and US$1.43 billion in December 2019.
The main sources of American steel imports in December include: Canada 426,747 tons; Mexico, 233,252 tons; South Korea, 2013.32 million tons; the Netherlands, 77,944 metric tons; Germany, 6,558,700 tons.
By product category, the total import of semi-finished products in December was 128,798 tons, which was higher than 122,418 tons in November and lower than 199684 tons in December 2019. In December, the total import of flat products was 663,626 tons, higher than the 572,905 tons in November and 655,955 tons in December 2019. The total import of long products in December was 258,936 tons, which was lower than the 297,465 tons in November and 234,266 tons in December 2019. The total imports of steel pipes in December amounted to 252343 million tons, which was higher than the 1.632.7 million tons in November and lower than the 2.9673 million tons in December 2019.
According to data from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), the U.S. steel import market share is estimated to be 18% in December 2020, 17% in November, and 18% so far this year.
